ON-GOING -Free classes on-going at Gymcats for kids with autism

The program started in June 2008. Gymcats does free classes for any kids with autism. Gymcats teamed up with F.E.A.T. to help kids of autism to build relationships, learn social skills, improve gross motor learning skills and have a lot of fun. The class is 45 minutes usually 1x/month. It begins with meeting their partner (a kid who attends Gymcats and has volunteered to be an assistant to the child with autism). They start the class with an opening obstacle course which works on basic rolls, balance skills, climbing over and under things, jumping etc. We then break up into groups and work on a routine to music, jumping down the 40 foot fast track, on the in-ground trampline and into our 6 foot deep foam filled pit. The class also includes group acitivies to music and hand-eye coordination. We have seen tremendous changes in the kids who come regularly to class with improvements in areas such as listening, coordination and strength. Click here for an article on how gymnastics can benefit kids with autism.

Please call 566-1414 and sign your child up so we can pair them with a Gymcat student who will be their private helper during each class.

M-lisada charitable event

Gymcats has a special connection with M-lisada, an orphanage in Uganda. The history and heartache is so powerful and the needs are so great that just a donation of $160 can send a child to school for an entire year. School is something only the forutnate kids get to attend. Sometimes they don't have the money to attend, sometimes they don't have a school uniform. Sometimes the schools or orphanage don't have enough money to feed the kids three times a day. Some kids don't have shoes and most have only 1 or 2 outfits of clothing. If you'd like to help stay tuned for ways to sponsor a child. In the meantime, please consider attending our charity event. April 24, 2010 charity event

We RAISED $5154--- thank you to all Gymcats members and guests for making this event a success. Read a thank you letter from M-lisada here.

Donations to IRAQ
In July 2007, we mailed out packages to Iraq directly to one of our former colleagues' son (Michael) who is a Doctor in Iraq. They received all the items and were very grateful of our generous donation. We made a difference in some Iraqi kids' lives and Michael was overwhelmed by our generosity.

Shade Tree Fundraiser- 2007

Gymcats will be donating proceeds of a number of events throughout the year to benefit the Shade Tree Organization. In November 2007, our holiday camps at Thanksgiving where 25% of all camp enrollment will be given to the Shade Tree organization. (Our camps raised $438) Also our November 10th flip flop shop kicks it off by donating 10% of each enrollment to Shade Tree (Our Nov. flip flop shop raised $21.14).

We are going to do an on-going sponsorship of our open gyms with 15% of open gym profits going towards the Shade Tree. (Our open gyms donated $625) When your kids attend open gym, not only do they have fun and learn, they also are helping a charity who is in so much need. Shade Tree helps women and children when they need it most, and we at Gymcats are so proud to be a part of helping these women and kids. Our Shade Tree dinner raised $1882 and with all the other events we presented Shade Tree with checks totaling $3241.54. Thank you Gymcats members for your support of this great organization.

I encourage all our members to contact the shelter, there are several time slots open that the shelter needs volunteers for, it is truly a wonderful organization.

Tunahaki Foundation
Our customers have so much and are lucky enough to be able to give to those in need. When asked to help out, our customers have stepped up to the plate. In November 2006, we sponsored a fund raiser for the Tunahaki Foundation. Tunahaki foundation Our members raised over $4000 for the kids from Tanzania and donated items for these kids and promoted good will. We were very proud of our Gymcats members.
